What version of Ubuntu are you using? I think the one on the download page was built using 8.10 but I'm not entirely sure. It worked fine on 9.04 for me. It's probably returning an error message, one you can only see when you run the program from the command line. Could you try running it that way? ...

It works on Windows 2000 for the most part, except for the chat. VP uses a version of the rich edit control that came with Windows XP SP1. VP doesn't really have working avatars at the moment, still working on the animated models. Theres just a placeholder for each avatar walking around in a world.
